Re: usb media player
Hi thecrazybandit
A good media player is the one of the Western Digital - media player TV Live.
It costs about 80€, and can play everything, has htmi, usb, wi-fi, full hd etc.
...but I would suggest you something else...
Why you don't turn your receiver into media player?
What is your box?
If you have a E2 receiver can easily play almost every media file from a HDD after mounting. If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks Button -
Re: usb media player
any droid media player will do what you want and will play all formats, with the right player software loaded and codecs. or you can load xbmc and stream as well,
or if a pc that your are not using get a cheap vid card with hdmi output and load media player lite , lite is not a spelling mistake, and you can play 98% of files with this software.Comment

Re: usb media player
Have you check if the problem is the ntfs format or the size of the hdd?
I'm not sure about the size of 2tb but the ntfs format is a problem.
You can try to format your hdd as fat32 and even you can create 2 separate partitions of less than 1 tb in order to avoid any limitation. If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

Re: usb media player
The hard drive needs to be ntfs format because some of the films are blue ray so they are very large files that is why i do not use fat 32Comment

Re: usb media player
DVB-s2 box Amiko Alien sold in Russian federation as GI-S8120 plays videos from USB-HDD Seagate 2TB NTFS formatted pretty good. And also it can record or timeshift with this HDD. It costs about 100$ and it also may show digital television when not playing media files :).Comment

Re: usb media player
Perhaps try the ext3-format (linux format) for your hdd.
No problems with long files and for me it's working very good with my e2 receiver (xtrend) via usb.If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!Comment

Linux dvb box surely will understand ext2, ext3 or ext4 for these are it's native file systems. Also some linux boxes REQUIRE native partition for PVR. But it seems he asked a device to play from usb because neither Playsatation nor Xbox cannot play files from drive of 2TB with NTFS. I seriously doubt Playstation will understand ext3 partition and I'm absolutely sure Xbox won't understand it. So if your linux box can't see 2TB HDD with NTFS I suggest it's time to get a new linux box for even cheapest ones can play files from such partitions.Comment

PS3 defenitly does not understand ext3. PS4 I don't know.
And for windows you need a special software like "Ext2 Volume Manager". It's freeware and very easy to use.
For a linux receiver it's the best format, but the most non-linux receivers with usb don't work with it - that's the problem. If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!Comment

Re: usb media player
ext3 it's a very good idea for linux box.
I use a ext3 usb stick on my receiver and it's very fast.
...but I would like to ask...
is there a way to access ext3 linux partition from Windows?
because the HDD is a portable disk and I'm sure that our friend he wants access for it both from linux (receiver) and windows (pc).If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment
