    Re: hard drive failed

You can remove the disc from a dead drive and place it in one of the same make running the same sofware version, but once you have done that you have a chance of recovering the data but they do not like any form of dust, and like kalpikos says board swops may work if it is only the board

      Re: hard drive failed

kaplikos is correct, though that would be pretty last resort, if the disk spins up , the data can probably be read, if you stuff the circuit board connector , you are double doomed,

        Re: hard drive failed

I have seen many HDD to be sold on ebay and other pages for this reason.
People want only the circuit board from the old HDD to replace it in their disk.

The buying of an old non working disk maybe is an extra cost but if your data is valuable for you and you don't have much money for the data recovery company, then it's the only way.

          you should proceed this operation
          in a clean room
          electro statically neutral
          and dustless dressed
with isolation to hair, hand, mouth, nose, ...

no one micro dust or finger print on board ...

              hi thecrazybandit

glad you 'solved' your problem - 1 or 2 years ago I struggled with some dense external 2,5" hdd's myself - spent weeks on trying to recover/regenerate (even bit/bit) - in the end I gave up and threw it away (even the ict at work couldn't recover it).

should you ever find a solution for your samsung: feel free to share it with us - always useful!

                  hi aplok

if I remember well, the hdd was fat32 before it crashed - tried recovering into ntfs (without success - left it running for a few days and in the end I gave up - only had some % recovered ...)
