Beginners Guide To Converting Pc into Satellite Reciver

Hi Am Newbie so sorry for sounding stupid. I was looking for a beginners guide to setting up your PC to receive and decode channels via the PC only. I have just purchased the following card
Technisat SkyStar HD2 PCI. So which guide would you guys recommend. I do have an old dream box 500 but really only interested in converting my PC into a dreambox or similar functioning box. I mean I want to put my ccline direct into my PC which then can act as my box. Is this possible? Thank you for reading my quirie. Kind regards

Re: Beginners Guide To Converting Pc into Satellite Reciver

Quick guide.
1.- Get a PCI Sat Receiver or an USB Sat Receiver.(SkyStar HD2 PCI, SkyStar S2 PCI, o same USB models).
2.- Then you must install your PCI Sat receiver into your PC. You must chose a free PCI Slot. Insert the card firmly. (Watch the video in this post)
3.- If your PC receiver is USB, then you must not install anything into your PC.
4.- Plug your F connector to your PC Sat receiver.
5.- Then you must put your CD Drivers into your CD reader unit.
6.- Install all the drivers.
7.- Look for a good HD codec pack, for me the best and freeware is HDPack 2.4 is freeware and available all over the net.
8.- Download a program to watch Sat TV, because the default viewer of your installation CD is a not full version. For me DVBDream is the best.(You can find this program paying for it or googling)
9.- Install your PC Sat Tv viewer (DVBDream i.e.)
10.- OK, now you must run your DVBDream viewer and then select your PCI card as default device. Then select your Sat and scan all the channels.
11.- Select the codecs (video and audio) for me the best for SD video is DsScaler, for audio ffdshow, video renderer 7, audio renderer default, HD.264 HD Codec Arcsoft, ac3 codec of ffdshow for HD sound.(Codecs include in HDPack 2.4

If you want add a cccam emu, you can download HADU emu, and put your c-lines there. This is all.
Best regards.

I recommend PCI SkyStar S2 HD card because is cheapest than any others and it have remote control included.

See this "How to install a PC TV tuner card into your PC" video from youtube.

Re: Beginners Guide To Converting Pc into Satellite Reciver

Regards my friend.
I would ask to a forum mod to put a sticky for this thread in order to have this information available to all members. And so on I would like to change this thread to PC DVB Sat Cards section. Really this is not very useful into windows section.
I'll complete the guide as soon as possible with more information, videos, photos and many more.
Best regards to all Satlovers.

No, because we are working under Windows O.S.
You can use CCCam emu, or NewCamD emu, O+Box Plugin, Vplug, but enigma is linux based.
Best regards.

Re: Beginners Guide To Converting Pc into Satellite Reciver

Hi
What I did was to buy a PCI Card for Sat reciever Hauppauge Hvr- 5500
I use DVB-dream, but because i sometimes like to have translation on the movies I
bought a licence for DVB-vewer (there is possible to get text translation on programs)
possibly on other programs - somebody should write a list of them..
Installation should not be hard if you have installed PCI -cards on a PC before..

the rest is pretty intuitive.. install Dvb dream from the links on satlover
and there 's a lot of other stuff on DVB Cards thread..

There was a project named Emubox, that allowed to have original C**am and part of Enigma on a virtual Linux machine or andlinux, running inside Windows.
I loved it very much and sometimes I still use it, but it's quite complicated and no more supported... :(

Re: Beginners Guide To Converting Pc into Satellite Reciver

I would think all this has been covered before.
It is not rocket science just stick the card in the pc goto detect new hardware when it asks for the drivers stick the disk for the drivers and then the software (read the read me notes on the disc it will tell you the correct way for the drivers and software) from the disc you should now have it set up to run sat from pc.
That is if you have set your dish up properly.
Now you need a platform to run from as the software that you put on from the disc will only run freesat.
A quick google for sat software will give you a assortment of platforms it is then up to you to decide the one you like, if you do not like the one you are trying delete it and try another one.

XBMC itself is not a digital television player. To be able to play TV content it needs a PVR backend. And even with such plugin it's not a perfect solution to watch tv. Pvr plugins are stand alone instances for windows, linux, or even a linux based STB may be a TV backend for XBMC.
I am watching TV with a PC for a long time. And I found the best choice for it DVBViewer on WinXP.
Some time ago I start to find a free solution for this task. There's a free solution called OpenELEC (openelec.tv). It's Linux with XBMC as a shell. You may not be a Linux expert to run OpenELEC. It's easy enough to make it work with DVB. But it will be hard to make it work with cardsharing.

I would suggest you to buy DVB Viewer and run it on it.
DVB viewer is very stable and it works fine with it.
