Al Jazeera are the first pay channels in youtube for the cost of $0.99 and this is just the beggining. Near 50 channels are going to be online broadcast and will be free for 14 days for viewing. this can be done from pc, tablets phones and every other devices that can watch youtube.

There're already 54 channels available to subscribe. Personally I don't like the idea, but will see how it goes forward and what value it'll bring.

i think its for the best cause this way we can watch live match almost everyware anytime for a low cost.

Not sure that they will go in direction of live TV, atm they will allow you to watch exclusive episodes ie Sesame street.

well if you are rigth then is not worth it. anyway i try almost all channes and no one is avialiable in my county!

I would not bother with Youtube, there are already ways of watching premium
content without a subscription, using xbmc and the right plugins I already get a,
access to lot of things I like to watch for free but any kind of competition is
healthy and may even lead to other broadcasters cutting prices.

I think it's very good idea,
and only time will tell how successful will be.
I would like to test some channels,
but unfortunatly almost all channels are not available for my county,
as dear @kostis said above.
I can't understand that.
For whom are available these channels?

@kalpikos what is your country? It's seems that most of it atm targeting US with some exceptions to other countries. In UK I can only subscribe to 32 out of 54.

"YouTube will launch the subscription channels in 10 countries: U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Japan, Korea, France, Spain, Russia and Brazil. Individual channel providers have the option of which territories they offer their services."

I reckon it sounds like a good idea. Maybe pay per view sports channels for the occasional sports fan could be next? Someone who doesn't want to pay £20 a month to their satellite provider but wants the option to watch the odd game?
