Re: Internet security on smart tv

As the smart TV is getting smarter, the development of the system this tc uses is also exapning. This makes the system bigger with more coding and therfore more way to hack it for hackers. Sooner or later the smart tv will be produced with an build in antivirus function in order to keep up with the security.

It is natural that at the beginning of the anti-virus system does not need. The number of threats to the system grows with time. The growing number of smart TV in our homes will increase the interest of hackers. Especially at the time of collection by the smart TV valuable customer information.

We hope that the manufacturers of TV-sets with Smart TV in the near future will pay attention to the problem of breaking TVs hackers and when writing software will introduce anti-virus programs. I used to about the problem of breaking the TV is not heard, but after our discussion I understood that it is now urgent.

what do you mean "he hard drive connected to his tv would be in use every now and then"? how does he knows? he hear any sound or he search when the files inside hard disk have been used for the last time? could this use be because of some kind of automatic update?

Hi if his hdd is connected by usb connection it is it is be easy to see if the drive if being used by some other source its light will flash.
don't have a smart tv don't know if they have internal hdd but if they do I would think it wil show if the drive is in use, if external you should turn it off if you are not using it

Re: Internet security on smart tv

It is possible that the tv checks every 15 / 20 minutes that the hard drive is still connected . It is a bit like pinging , but it should not light up for more than a second at most, any longer it is being accessed.
One way to stop it , is to use your firewall on your router, if you know the ports it uses.

There are two theories about hard drives that are spining without reason.
The first one is about the Green Drives.
They slow down their speed when they're not being
accessed so they can save power.
As soon as something accesses the drive - with or without any action
on your part - the system can access the drive on it's own,
the drive spins back up to it's operational speed.

The second theory is about all hard drives.
In this theory, the drive is just making a connection test regularly.

So, it's not necessary to be a hacker

I guess we will never know it may well be just the set up of the smart tv with the hard drive but it has stopped spinning since he disconnected the internet

I'm convinced there's a danger with every internet connected equipment.
And for the programmers of the software on smart-tvs it's very simple to send datas e.g. about your user behavior.

Re: Internet security on smart tv

I agree with Satphoenix that it's important to be careful, for example on PCs a good integrated firewall and antivirus (I use NOD32 and Kaspersky, of course not on the same pc...) is already a shelther.
As kalpikos said HD moving is not a red alarm.
There are typical behaviours for SmartTV, but also on old PCs so many processes going on, even for antivirus itself.
And sometimes there is something wrong, but not a virus.
Some years ago I had a terrible pc, slow and with HD ever moving, but it was poor memory.
I changed Operative system with a modified, lighter, one and things went better.
I could also buy other memory...

perhaps you need to write more about the problem of hacking hackers smart tv and on the various forums and then the producers of the TV and programmers will pay attention to this problem and will be equipped with smart tv anti-virus programs.
