...how secure are smart tv"s when connected to the net
They are not secure! If an agressor knows how to influence the hardware, he is inside your network (if your tv is connected to a home network).
That's the risk of connected equipment. If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans! -
Re: Internet security on smart tv
As already said it is not secure at all, companies churn out the latest things to encourage you to buy their products, it is then up to you to look after your own safety, I suppose it is only a matter of time before some of the security packs will have it sorted, meantime just use it with caution as it is great for youtube clips etc.

Re: Internet security on smart tv
Hello mates
This is taken from the net
-Security experts reveal they have been able to gain access to the device
and scour its hard drives and connected drives for information
-They claim to have 'complete root access' allowing them to install malicious
software that could monitor its cameras and microphones
-More and more devices that connect to the Internet are leaving unwitting
consumers vulnerable to such hacking attacks
Smart TV could used by hackers to watch everything that happens in your living room by gaining access to the device's built-in camera and microphones.
Hackers said: "We can install malicious software to gain complete root access to the TV"
Companies said:"We recommend our customers to use encrypted wireless access points, when using connected devices"
so, it's clear that using a smart tv on the net is not very secure.
Manufacturers must release a security software in order to protect users. If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

Re: Internet security on smart tv
hi,
i thing it is not the first target from hacker because the most people who use smart tv
are private peoples. Hacker like companies because there are lots of valuable information
in companies.
But as kalpikos said, it is important to secure all equipment connected to the Internet.

I would have thought that for a hacker to gain entry into your TV it must have access and have hacked your internet means such as the router etc to be able to connect to the TV... The best way to deal with it for now it so follow the advice they say and keep your wireless equipment encrypted to a strong degree.
Also, when you are not using the smart TV for its Smart capabilities, pull out its ethernet if it is convenient so that there is 100% guarantee of no hacker gaining access at that particular moment!Comment

Re: Internet security on smart tv
It wont help to secure youre wireless internet security if your devices within the network is not secure. If i infect a computer with virus and take controll over it, it will be very easy to find out if there is smart tv connected to the network and if yes, then will have controll over all function the smart tv have. As far as i know samsung is one of those that really need to increase its security. So Smart tv is one of all the other network devices that is hackabel.Comment

Agreed! What I meant was that to infect a computer is much easier than a TV browser due to the lack of scripts etc that would be enabled on the TV.
On a computer you can easily pick up malware or dodgy exe files etc.
Would you know the methodology behind picking up a virus on a panasonic TV? I am curious as I would have thought it was closed source software that has very rigid structure and options...Comment

Re: Internet security on smart tv
For Panasonic i really have not had any of theire products in my hand to play with, but if you go to android marked play, you will find many application for samsung smart products. I have tested some of them with my samsung smart tv, and there is no need for any autorization in term of username and password or certificate, so you just simple open the application and the application will search on your LAN to see if it find any smart product, if yes, then you have full controll over it. Now, this shows how the security of smart product(samsung) is build up from the source and up tp the GUI. Therfore it is really easy to gaine controll over smart products if you just have connection to the same LAN/WAN as the smart product. You might not get direct contact with product but you can do it via another device(computer) on the network. But if you really want it, you can setup on the network so you get direct contact with the smart product via WAN link.Comment

Re: Internet security on smart tv
At the moment there are no security issues with the Panasonic Smart tv but
can't say there won't be in the future the Samsung Smart tv has already been
proven to be vulnerable all it takes is a determined hacker but as long as you
have already taken measures to protect your private and important data
(which you should have done) then there is nothing to worry about and just
enjoy your new tv.:)Liked my post then push the sigpic button.

What do you mean with secure connection? When you connect to your panasonic device with Ipad, do you have to verify any username/password or is it just connecting without any verification?Comment

Re: Internet security on smart tv
Panasonic (like others as well) are companies which want to have information about their users. If your tv is connected to the internet, it's possible that they receive datas from you about what channels you are watching, when you are watching etc.
Sony defenitly does it with the PS3 so why not others?
