I managed to get a old medion tower pentium 4 3 ghz proccesor 1 gig of ram for nothing they were just about to be put in the bin i will update the ram and put a new hard drive in and it should do the job

I reckon you have a great cheap system there, why not stick your old HD in ? just to boot up and then clone across the partition to a bigger drive.

Also its good if you check graphic card cable and sure its working correct.

I think actually the best place for the old board is the dustbin, it could take other components with it, he know the other components are ok and could either fleabay them or keep as spares.

Thats were is gone in the bin i have took it apart and can see no sign of damage but i dont think i would be able to see whats wrong with it anyway

Are you going to clone the HD across or are you using what is there already?

No just format a hard drive and a new install of xp with 2 gig of ram

hi, i was having a similar problem before here is what i did.

1 uninstalled kaspersky and switched to windows defendor which is free if you have a genuine windows
2 installed ccleaner and tuneup utilities and revo uninstaller
3- with revo uninstaller the junk programs then did a thorough scan with tune up(both registry and hard drive)
4-clean stuff with cccleaner
5-defragment your hard drive

6- then use msconfig to uncheck the unnecessary programs in your startup

He's o.k. the mb was dead.

Your advice though is generally good, however combo fix is a must for any serious malware removal.

Combofix is a powerfull program that you can use to deep scan you computer for virus, malwares. It will remove the virus ir can remove, and create a detailed report about the scan which you can use to find out where on you harddriver is infected. It is for advanse user but it is also the "last" solutions you should do to be 100% sure you dont havenasty stuf on your computer;)

Combofix utilises the windows recovery module and can mesh in with spybot 1.6.

I only use it with almost unfixable systems.

But anyway the mystery is solved and the guy has a new system..
