No blue screen of death on boot everything works fine once its running this is what happens when i turn the pc on the windows xp logo comes on screen runs a few seconds then freezes i cannot turn power off from button on the front so i have to turn off the power from the switch on the back of pc tower then i turn power back on from the power switch on the back of the tower the option of start windows normally comes up and other options as well i leave it to run down on the timer and it works fine if i try any other options it just freezes again on boot up
That is strange. So you're saying using the hard power off to reset works but the "soft" button on the front of the computer makes it hang? What happens if you hold the front button for more than 5 seconds?
I got round a stuck boot sequence the other day by using a linux ubuntu distrib on a pen drive to get round a faulty MBR, that was a failed hard drive. But this sounds different.
