Re: windows freezes on boot up
I had similar problem few months ago.
It was my Graphics Card.
As you said , I could boot my system in safe mode, but in normal mode I had freezing on the start screen.
I changed it and all fixed.
Check you vga and if you can test your system with another card.
In my case, the Vga damaged by overheating.
I hope helped youIf You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks Button -

Re: windows freezes on boot up
When you are in safe mode press your menu start button, in the search box
type msconfig, you should see msconfig.exe click on it a window should open,
select services tab, tick hide ms services see what is left and untick anything
you think is unnecessary, go to start up tab and untick anything you don't want
starting up, go to general tab and choose selective start up press ok and reboot.
If it still freezes on boot up repeat procedure go to start up and untick what
ever is still left there and if it still does not boot then it is a driver or hardware
issue. (In winxp I think it is run instead of search then type msconfig.exe)
Good luck.Liked my post then push the sigpic button.Comment

Re: windows freezes on boot up
Sounds like a corrupt bootloader if you have the Win Disk at hand boot from that and reload a new MBR and that should cure it.
Dear, please read the posts above.
He says that the pc can boot in safe mode.
so, there is no problem with MBR.
@thecrazybandit
Take from a friend of you a vga card to test.
Only in this way you can find if your card is broken.
Did you notice some vertical or horizontal lines in start screen or bios screen ?If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

Boot from the windows XP CD, press the "R" key in the setup in order to start the restoration console. Select your windows XP installation from the list, and enter the administrator password.
Enter the command: "FIXMBR" (without the quotes) at the input prompt and confirm the next question with a "Y" (without the quotes). Use exit to restore the computer.

Re: windows freezes on boot up
I will advice you to uninstall your video card driver and let windows use generic driver. This might show us if it is problem with video card. Also i will advice you to run a virus check with malwarebytes anti malware. This program is a killer software that will clean you computer for 99% of all virus, malware etc. If still problem then you should delete your windows profile via safemode and see if it still happens.Comment
