Which software to create backup image of win7??

Hello,
i'm facing a problem on executing backup of my win7
I have win7 installed on C (500 Gb) and a secondary D for data (2Tb).

After installed a new instance of win7, i execute the windows procedure to create an image of the system on my secondary HD.
This image contain only windows.

Then i installed application (on C ) and i repeated the procedure to create a second image as backup (windows + application), using as destination D

The microsoft procedure abort with the message " There is no more space".

On D i have more of 1.7 Tb free.

On my idea, the Microsoft procedure will not create a second image of a system, when in the destination it is already present a previous backup image.

Does anyone has some experience with this?

Does anyone know a freeware system to execute an image of win7 partition, easy to use?

I suggest you to try Acronis True Image

Is by far the most powerfull program for backup and disk imaging.

You can restore the previously captured image to another disk, replicating the structure and contents to the new disk, also allowing disk cloning and partition resizing, even if the new disk is of different capacity.

Thanks for your suggestion ... but i looked at the home page of this software and it doesn't seem to be freeware. Do you agree?

Yes, it's not free
as @hodhod said good softwares are not free :(

There are many utilities free but personaly I dont trust them.
I have used Acronis many times and I dont have any problem.

if you are searching for a free backup utility i would prefer paragon: backup and recovery... you can make a completely backup from your system including programs and so on...
and its for free... use google to find

Hi,
did you think to use Hiren's tool?
I've choosen Acronis Backup Restore 11 Home, is very quick and produce a small file image compared with Norton Ghost 11.

hey gpaolobvt,

because you need a free solution, win7 backup ist a good solution for you.
Create a new partition like E von 1 TB(Divide D) with win7.
And use D and E like backup device.
That is what i done on my Sony VAIO Laptop.

Not a good idea to backup a partition on the same hd, if damaged disk can not be recovered

The best is clonezilla. Is free and it start on boot.

whats the format of your hard disk? if a file-image is larger than 4gb on a fat harddisk you get similar errols.

Fresh installation of Windows 7 on FAT32? is quite hard to believe!

My filesystem is ntfs.

Win 7 Backup let me the possibility to execute only 1 backup. When i tried a second or a third, the error message appears.

I take a look at the web site... but on my idea this softfare let to backup only data, not all the operative system.

I downloaded an iso life and burn it on CD... after bootit , i saw only 1 disk (my C) and nothing about my D (2 tB). Maybe because my D is composed by 2 HD configured as raid 0 on 2 sata3 port.

Maybe this is the reason why the microsoft win7 backup works only once time.

I downloaded the paragon backup, installed it and tryied... It works fine and it is easy to use.

Your problem is the lack of free space in the system partition, follow this procedure and you will be able to backup your system using Windows:
