Re: Google Glasses, what you think?

The concept itself is fantastic, but for these to catch on they will most likely need to be made a fashion statement so that people would WANT to wear them. From what they have released atm, they may be light and small but it also makes you look like something out of a sci-fi film and you would not really be wearing them out about in the public.

        Interesting article here :): hxxp://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/21/google-to-sell-terminator-style-glasses-by-years-end/

        [QUOTE]
According to several Google employees familiar with the project who asked not to be named, the glasses will go on sale to the public by the end of the year. These people said they are expected “to cost around the price of current smartphones,” or $250 to $600.

The people familiar with the Google glasses said they would be Android-based, and will include a small screen that will sit a few inches from someone’s eye. They will also have a 3G or 4G data connection and a number of sensors including motion and GPS.

A Google spokesman declined to comment on the project.

Seth Weintraub, a blogger for 9 to 5 Google, who first wrote about the glasses project in December, and then discovered more information about them this month, also said the glasses would be Android-based and cited a source that described their look as that of a pair of Oakley Thumps.

They will also have a unique navigation system. “The navigation system currently used is a head tilting to scroll and click,” Mr. Weintraub wrote this month. “We are told it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.”

The glasses will have a low-resolution built-in camera that will be able to monitor the world in real time and overlay information about locations, surrounding buildings and friends who might be nearby, according to the Google employees. The glasses are not designed to be worn constantly — although Google expects some of the nerdiest users will wear them a lot — but will be more like smartphones, used when needed.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when these glasses are finally released, but heaven help us if the last comment is true. I am truly fed up being walked into by people reading emails or text messages while walking along the street and as for people on buses who talk utter nonsense throughout your journey I certainly do not believe that mobile phones are only used when necessary. Maybe I am just getting old.:D:D

I doubt you will get any privacy with these glasses, they are made so your location is known when you wear them and you will be targeted by shops advertising offers as you walk by.

What if someone manages to hack into them they will be able to view your life through them, will that mean they hacked into your life.

                      Relating to the GPS
These Android-based glasses, equipped with 3G and 4G connections will include sensors like motion and GPS and a low-resolution camera, making it possible for the glasses to give the user information about location and even nearby friends. It will allow the users to interact with the device via head tilts.
The information that the GPS will have to offer in through these glasses is expected to be displayed a a few inches from the eyeball, sources said.

I sure hope not. Checking your email/facebook whilst driving through a town centre is a recipe for disaster.

I have not read medical opinions about it ... do you think it could not get worse vision or cause headaches for the close contact with the eyes?

Simply a £1000 fine and 6 points on your licence. Can't afford that.
