WMP not showing

Guys
I have windows Vista and a strange problem when I play music in windows media player 11, problem is the music plays but WMP does not appear on screen ??

Can you start wmp at all without playing music?. You sure it is not minimized? take a look at the right corner(with the clock) and see if the wmp icon is there.

Try also opening wmp without playing music and then play music to see if it happens. Also try go in to settings within wmp and see if there is any minimize setting you can turn of like this:

click on tools

click on options

and uncheck something like "allow playback controls to hidden automatically"

I can open WMP from a shortcut and then play as normal, it only happens when double click a music file without WMP running.

When you right-click on the music-file: open with: choose wmp-again.
Otherwise: while playing: alt-tab: is wmp there?

ok tried the right click and set default program, however still doesn't show, but it is there with alt + tab

hmmm. can you try do a reset of wmp.

Do this:

Start > Run > msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic press enter and try following the wizard.

do you have a TV plugged in on your graphic card
then it possible plays on TV
i have often problems with that

can't you configure your monitor+tv (what to show where?) - some kind of graphic options -> output to ... ?

Weird.. maybe you can try in safe mode? Have you installed any codecs and this happend? Also you can try creat new account for frsh wmp to see if it is ok then. First of all you can try deleting following files to force the resett and maybe fixing problem:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

WMP 11.0.6002.18311 is this the latest version, is there not a WMP 12 flying about for vista ?

Did you try out the solution I posted? WMP 12 is not officially made for vista, but if you do some Google searches a you will find some trick to get wmp 12 on vista.

you mean deleting files, yes still the same results ?

I suppose when you look at your processes (alt-ctrl-del -> processes) it's there. When you close it (here it's: wmplayer.exe), and eg restart your computer and then restart WMP -> still the same?

the funny thing about this is that it only happens with a music file, playing a video works without any problem, only if I play a music file first then WMP doesn't seem to maximize, and I can't see it in the tray or taskbar......and yes the process shows with CTRL + ALT + DEL, kill it and it starts all over as before.
