Re: google spies on you
not only google spies you..also facebook, microsoft, and all devices connected to the internet/gps/gsm/..

Is a choice: use the 1.000.000.000 services provided by google/facebook/internet and "risk" in term of privacy, or do NOTHING and take your personal data "at home"! :)

For internet security, I think the better is "use you credential only with the site you're registered" (for example: facebook account only on facebook site and not in other 10.000 plugins/site that promise some ''benefits" if you sign in with your facebook accounts; same for other account: bank account, msn account, skype, google...)

"most of the problems of a PC is between the chair and the desk!" ;)
You are right, everything you do at your PC is knowed by someone somewhere. Don't mind antivirus, antispyware, etc... it's the same.
Big Brother is here to stay as George Orwell predicted. We are watched everywhere, everytime.
Once you are connected to the net, you are monitorised by many people.
And facebook, twitter, tuenti, etc... are the worst invented things in order to keep your privacy.
Nobody is ANONIMOUS.
Best regards.

Re: google spies on you

Everyone spies on you when you use the internet as long as you don't give out info that could be harmful to you or others it is alright, it make for a more enjoyable experience.

I don't mind Amazon sending me emails that tailored to products I've shown an interest in or that google can narrow down searches to my local area.

But something I'm very careful is on social media like facebook or similar I've seen people postings things which could be harmful not only to them self's but to others as well, from personal details to sensitive messages and photos, the brain or some thought has not been used at all.

Only you are the master of the info you want to share.

Aslong as you are careful with what you do on the net, there is not much that can be done to hurt you. If you know how to handle security and are expert and spotting scams and viruses etc then your money cannot be taken. Details like address and names can sometimes even be found in a telephone directory.

Companies like google "spy" in the sense of your search interests so that they can tailor your adverts that they give you so that you can click on them and make them more money. Everything is about money and even that is no different I think.

Even if you are very carefull ,there is still some information they can get :
Does your home or business Wi-Fi network require a password to use it?

If it doesn't, then Google may have recorded your Internet traffic, according to a report released this month by the Federal Communications Commission.

Google won't turn over the data it gathered from Wi-Fi networks in the United States, but in other countries, Google snooped on Wi-Fi networks and recorded details of email logins, medical information, sexual preferences and even evidence of extramarital affairs.
I totally agree with odysseas1991. I have explained it in my earlier posts but a little more eaxplaination is here. Never do internet banking if you are not confident or don't know what to do. Most of the time when you are browsing some of the websites record your key strokes and gather information about you.

Re: google spies on you

If you want to try, go to a few popular internet provider websites like BT,TalkTalk or Virgin and search for broadband. They ask you to enter you Landline number to check if you can receive their service. Once you put the number. After a week or so you will receive a pack or an offer from them in the post asking you to join them. Makes you think how do they know your address or knew that you are looking for broadband. Because they can easily find your address from the phone book. Its all done automatically though.

Hi
I just use a program to hide IP address it seems to work for me and Norton helps a lot when tweeked to let in what you want, but that's just my opinion

If you hide IP then you dont get localised search from google. Its good in one way when you search for something and google gives you your local suppliers.

Proxies should be the only solution to be invisible on the Internet.
The main problem ,in my opinion ,is the email.
In you take gmail,hotmail.. all your private mails are stored into hardrives who could be stolen.
Have you ever imagine if someone steal/hack the mail database of google ?
Nowadays ,everyone uses mails as if it was 100% secure ,but when you see precedents post or the RIM accident, you realize that everything digitalize is not so sure!

If you sign up with any email provider, doesn't matter if its free or not they will store your details emails too. That is the only way to keep a track of the person. In case the authorities needs your details or list of activitis in the future so they can retriew them. The mobile phone companies uses the same tacticts.

I'm not worry about their policy (even if companies like facebook are willing to sell some customer preferences),but about loosing their database if one day they are hacked or stolen.
It never happened in microsoft with hotmail, so I guess we can happily live exchanging emails :)

The story is different at my side. Had a Live free account and after sometime it was bombarded by scams. Never used that address in online banking or anything else but it was starnge when all my friend started telling me that they were getting strange emails from my live address. I had to close that account.
