XP is outdated and this "liteversions" of xp are not very stabel.
Better try a small Linux distribution for you laptop.
With Linux you save resources on your laptop you don't need a Securitisuite, it's not very hard to switch from xp to linux giv it a try.

windows, linux, you have to decide first what you expect from your system.
internet surfing - you need modern up-to-date system, i e xp sp3 with all security updates installed. it will be slow but stable
if you need sat tv on weak system - install xp sp3 or even 2 - no matter, no updates, shut down some unwanted services. Protect your system with firewall in your router. - minimize resource utilization.
if you need to play modern games - buy a new pc.

If you have a legal operating system then only use windowsupdate in order to not having problems.

I have to disagree. I'm using a lite-version on one of my laptops for years. If you don't want Linux, XP is the best OS for your P3. Win7 would be very slow on it compared to XP.

Yes, I have :D

And very very easy to get your hands on one, by using a particular protocol on the internet. (I guess it's not allowed to tell you exactly where...)

Re: win xp sp3 lite

You can find even a micro sp3 much smaller than the lite xp3 version :) i thing 85 mb ? But it's a waste of time, a mini linux is much better.
You can run this lite versions on very old pc right, but the problem starts with the Software that you will instal.
If your PC can handle Xp3 full it's a better choise.

I must agree with dream2dream:

I use a very 'Tiny XP' version on my old P4 laptop, it's easy to find using the usual suspects.

Also a version of Linux could be handy as mentioned above.

Re: win xp sp3 lite

On my old PC I installed win xp sp3 lite. I have a 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB disk hark. It works if I want to surf the internet or if I want to use word processing programs. Of course I can not install programs that require lots of CPU and RAM, because the PC will crash. Also, when I see streaming programs, one often sees slow.

How to Make Your Own Windows XP Lite CD Installer with nLite
First you must have your own Windows XP legal version.

You will modify your original, legal Windows XP O.S. for your own use. This is legal. Only for your own use. You will adapt your Windows XP to your old PC in order to make it useful. OK?
nlite is a legal app. and free app. all over the internet.

This tutorial will make a modified windows XP CD installer.
Fast, install time can faster, just approx 10 minutes and system ready
Automatic, everything can run automatically, no annoying a CD-key (but you must have your own legal Win XP key to insert while you are creating your own Win XP lite) or other dialog again, just sit and see your installer works.
Lite, now Windows XP CD installer can just 185 MB (with some tweak in customizing)!!
Custom, everything can customized (SP, hot-fix, driver, some tweak, etc)
I just warn to read carefully descriptions of every features, because we don’t want the installer goes wrong :p

A little review about nLite program:
1. nLite allows you to customize your installation of Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows 2003. You can integrate service packs and hot fixes from Microsoft directly into your windows distribution files without having to re-download and install them every time you need to re-install windows.
2. There is also the option to remove unwanted components from within windows. Many applications are automatically included every time windows is installed. Not every person needs or even wants all of these applications which Microsoft considers to be necessary. By removing these unwanted components you can free up space within your setup and ultimately save space on your hard drive after installation.

3. nLite also provides a way to customize your installation by allowing numerous tweaks to the way windows looks and operates after it has been installed. You can even bypass Microsoft’s bulky unattended setup instructions and do it the easy way. The nLite way! . . .

(From nLite’s home page)
The tutorial:
We’ll download and install a program named nLite, go to download home
and download a latest nLite *.exe installer.
Before you can install nLite, you have to .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your windows system.
First we have to copy an installation directory from your original XP CD (no matter XP type, 32 bit, 64 bit, Starter, Home or Professional Edition, SP 1 or SP2 or SP3). Just copy all file and folder in CD to your drive, for example D:/customxp, don’t forget a remaining space, because we’ll start everything from here.
Now launch your nLite via your shortcut. Select Next.

Browse your Windows installation copied before. I use F:\customxp (disk space problem :p), Select OK and nLite’ll scanning your original XP properties.

I use Windows XP Professional (32 bit) with Service Pack Edition. If you don't have Service Pack 3 on your original Windows XP, you must download from microsoft web site and integrated into nlite.
Next, skip the Presets dialog, because we don’t have a saved preset before
Select All Task, so we can customize it well. Press Next

I’ve Service Pack 3 installer to be integrated in. Just browse where the SP3 installer, it will splitstreamed and integrated well. When finish press OK and Next.

Do the same, for Hotfixes, Add-ons and Update Packs and Driver dialog. Press Next

Choose your compability belong to your need. Optional you might choose preset > load > lite or you just customize a components, what will be added or no. Read carefully a short description at right, so you can customize safely. Press Next
