Microsoft has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses in the first month. Most of them are the upgrade keys to the users with other Microsoft's Operating systems, according to the chief marketing and financial officer of the Windows division. First 4 millions were in the first 3 days of the release.

Yes people are upgrading to Windows 8 but with the Surface running Windows 8 RT it was aiming to compete with ipad therefore it is failing.
MS strength lies in the desktop market therefore I can see Surface Pro tablet with Windows 8 may be successful.

MS did not release any sales figures for Microsoft's Surface RT tablet/PC devices, which also have been on sale since October 26. They did reiterate that Microsoft will have the Surface Pro, the version of the Surface running Windows 8 Pro, availalble in January 2013.

Almost 90% of users prefer desktop pc windows 7, not operational unless the w8 in all i one with touch screen, is more designed for tablets and phones
