The 32-bit Windows RT OS has a limited memory ceiling, and a 64-bit Windows RT OS would expand the memory capacity in tablets and PCs. Windows RT is on tablets with 32-bit processors from Nvidia and Qualcomm. Microsoft's Surface and Asus' Vivo Tab RT tablet have Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor.

Chips using ARM's licensed designs are widely lauded for their performance and battery life. This should be a good thing for users, meaning devices don't get hot, less charging, and snappy responses to commands. Intel wouldn't be leading anymore.

        Back to topic,

Windows RT will not be available as a packaged or downloadable product. Like a phone operating system, it will only be possible to get Windows RT on a device so you'll take what Microsoft gives you and be grateful for it.

Does anyone have any idea on what the lowest RAM required to run Windows 8 is? i.e is it efficient and fast?

Believe it or not it will run on a 1Ghz processor, 1gb ram 32bit ( limited to 3gb max due to 32bit restrictions ) , 2gb ram 64bit

              You need direct x 9.0 + 1366 x 768 resolution for apps to function 100% correctly.

The Windows 8 lock screen is a full-screen, Metro-style experience that appears when you boot your PC, lock it (WINKEY + L), or resume from sleep. And as with its smartphone-based counterpart, the Windows 8 lock screen is designed to provide basic glance-and-go information and status notifications for key Metro-style apps and the services behind them. To bypass the lock screen, tap any key on the keyboard, click the primary mouse button, or, on a touch screen, swipe the screen up with your finger.

Windows 8 runs all the x86 desktop apps that won't work on RT. It also has the optional Windows Media Center, which we don't expect to be available for Windows RT.

Windows 8 claimed to be a more secure environment but that does not seem to be the case I bet the first updates will be security.:D

[QUOTE]Microsoft's blockbuster new Windows 8 operating system is "prone to infection" from the biggest malware threats, a new report has claimed.

Antivirus company Bitdefender said that Windows 8 - the ambitious new touch-enabled software launched last month - is vulnerable to 15% of the 100 malware families most used by cyber criminals this year.

                        Well said mahrkpat,

If you decide to download and install MS Media Centre in your Win 8 OS, you will be provided with a NEW Product Key that replaces your original "Win-8-without Media-Centre" one. MS views "Windows-8-with- Media-Centre" as a different product to that of "Windows-8-without-Media-Centre"

If your PC is currently running Windows 7, your apps, files, and settings will easily transfer toWindows 8. If your PC is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, you'll need to reinstall your apps after you upgrade.

You can buy an upgrade version for about £25 from some shops. Or download directly from Microsoft for the same price. You don't have to uninstall your applications. All you have to do to upgrade Win 7 to Win 8 and if you don't like it downgrade back to Win 7 without loosing any apps.
