Re: win beta 8
The two windows Win8 and Win RT sharing a similar name and appearance, many Windows 8 buyers might make a costly mistake, they'll have purchased a Windows RT–based device that's not up to their needs. Windows RT does look and run like Windows 8, but it does not run traditional Windows apps.
I have been very confused with Win8 and Win RT why on earth would MS do this I can understand with phones but with tablets?
Creating 2 competing tablets with Win8 and Win RT sounds crazy to me especially as Win RT will be restricted.

Although Microsoft has been extraordinarily shy and quiet about the details, it now appears that Windows RT computers will run look-alikes of standard, built-in Windows apps (such as Paint, WordPad, and Notepad). According to an Office Next blog, there will be RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote all with complete document compatibility. The first Windows RT devices shipped to customers in October will include preview versions of those apps that be updated automatically to full versions over the next three months.

        Re: win beta 8

After all comments, I make my own conclusion. I prefer Win7 because I think Win8 is a gordian knot difficult to solve. By now, Win7 will have some years support, so I am going on with my Windows XP for my PC Sat Sky Star HD2 and on the other hard disk partition with my Win7 O.S. and when Win8 will be stablished, tryed, and clearly winner of the Microsoft O.S., then perhaps I'll install it, by now, I say no to Win8.
        Best regards.

It would be very interesting to see if old software designed to run on xp and windows 7 will run on windows 8

According to microsoft " Windows 8 is built on the foundation of Windows 7, but it’s been improved on all fronts. You can install Windows 8 on the same hardware that powers Windows Vista and Windows 7, and you’ll love how it works on new devices, too. Windows 8 was designed with Windows 7 apps in mind, because you probably have older apps you need to use".

My understanding is that Windows RT doesn't have the the Windows vista/7 shell and won't running "normal" programs. Windows 8 will run RT or xp/vista/7 programmes fine although it is annoying switching too and from the new start screen .

Mind you for £25 it is a no brainer to update from say vista to 8 , but if I had xp or 7 I would stick with that.

Almost everyone has some idea about microsoft products. They are used widely in all aspects of life. It will take a long time to bring a new product by someone else and attract the whole world to ignore microsoft. There will be lots of retraining going on. May be most of the businesses will stop. REally Scary!!

Thats true and mobile softwares like ipads and tablets are stil in their stone age. They can't replace a proper old fashioned pc with multitasking.

Even in the office MS is coming under pressure, where once MS charged premium prices for key software it is having to offer discounts.

Established businesses might be unwilling to move away from windows (but at the same time unwilling to upgrade too), but I can see new businesses going for something else whose cost are cheaper.

Win 8 is available now so we will all know if it will be a success or not soon.

Windows 8 is a curious mix of tappable blocks and clickable buttons. Some experts are saying: "It's impressive how well Microsoft has been able to replicate the touch workflow with the mouse and keyboard. We've never seen the two integrated quite like this before. The multiple ways to interface with the interface will go a long way toward convincing previous Windows owners, and perhaps even skeptics, that Windows 8 is all that."

Most people are worrying about the lack of the start button but it is really lower left of screen and can be easily modded in.

If you bought a Windows RT tablet (some tablets will run Windows 8), Word 2013 RT is included. But printing support depends on the model of printer you're using — some will work immediately with Windows RT, others won't. All printers have a lengthy list of supported and unsupported Windows on its website.

Printers that work on Windows 7 will work on Windows 8 but as microchick suggest not neccessarily on RT. One way round this is internet printing, or any that allow bluetooth file transfers or similar I suppose.
