    win beta 8

Microsoft may unleash the public beta of Windows 8 in February 2012, according to sources close to the company.

The Windows 8 Developer Preview is already out, but the public beta will bring the much anticipated operating system into the public domain for the first time.

With this beta release date still residing in rumoursville and not yet official, there's no telling exactly what will be in the beta for you to play with.

Windows 8 Developer Preview tried this and I can say that I liked all the programs are installed without a problem. It all drivers. There are some problems as some programs may just hang them in Task Manager. Skype only to install the latest version and more. But I think that the beta will clear the problems.

I tried the alpha version and prefer windows 7. Windows 8 is great for touch.

Yeah, I also tried developer preview and it seems much more focus on mobile devices than on computers.
Win7 was a major leap from the scrapy winVista, but right now win8 seem a fancy update of win7 for mobile devices. I'l probably stick with win7 for some time.

Im using the win 8 consumer preview at the moment. Not liking this metro ui touch thing though.

It is like they have went towards touch alot more now than mouse and keyboard.

I think everything will go touch soon

I think it's better to use W7 for now. It's not yet the final version and may cause system instability.

I agree: windows 8 is more turned for tablets. But you can disable metro an use it like on windows 7.

Windows 8 is supposed to be the system that connects all technologies, from the Smartphone, the Social, and so on, but maybe Microsoft has forgotten that (in addition to the global crisis) a PC, Notebook or Desktop that is, it is not a smartphone let alone a tablet.
Windows 8 is designed for use TOUCH, thus ideal for anyone with a PC that has a screentouch, but a person who did not think that it loads and then does not know what to do.

Microsoft posted the Windows 8 Release Preview for public download, the last major milestone before the final release of the operating system, which will be the biggest change for the widely used software since the landmark Windows 95 release.

The company also confirmed that it will roll out a Windows Upgrade Offer starting June 2, letting anyone who buys a Windows 7 PC prior to the Windows 8 final release upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 when the new operating system comes out.

Microsoft still isn’t saying when it plans to release the final version of Windows 8. (Msnbc is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal.)

The company had promised to issue the Release Preview in early June, so it’s staying ahead of schedule. In a blog post announcing the Release Preview, Windows chief Steven Sinofsky said the Release Preview brings hundreds of new and updated apps. They include new apps from Microsoft Bing for Travel, News and Sports, as well as third-party apps available through the Windows Store.

At the moment Windows 7 is really stable. Although it gets slow with a few updates from microsoft so better not to update those few files and disable them in the update options. If one windows is working well and its not too old then there is no point to change your operating system to a new one.
I have read somewhere that microsoft will offer an upgrade for around $40 which is about £25. That's a fair price for upgradation but what is the need for it if you are happy with the exisiting operating system.

if that's so, upgrade could/should be discussed further in win7 topic as this topic here is about windows 8
about win8 please don't keep repeating windows 8 is more for touch, has been mentioned enough.

i read that Acer will offer free upgrade to win 8 on some ultrabooks brought between june 2 this year and Jan. 31 next year. Users will have to pay Microsoft for the upgrade, but will then be refunded by Acer via a claim website.
