Guide to Converting Spiderbox trp recordings to Bluray (DVD-5 or 9)

Some may find this useful as I like to archive films recorded on the Spiderbox to disc. It uses all freeware software and all can be found with a simple google search (as I can't post links):

Standard trp file can be converted using the MPEG_Streamclip software direct to mpeg2 for authoring on a DVD.

For HD trp to Bluray format (DVD-5 or DVD-9):

    1. Join individual trp files with DOS copy command, e.g.
Start->Run then type cmd, then navigate to your drive and folder, such as c: enter, cd folder enter then type:
    copy /b File.trp + File.001 + File.002 + File.003 + File.004 + File.005 NewFile.trp /b

    2. Edit content and convert to m2ts - Run TsRemux v.0.0.21.2 and convert the new trp file to m2ts, note that you can also select a time range here to edit down (if resulting file is less than your media size then skip to 4, note this stage can take a reasonable amount of time depending on the file size)

    3. If you need to reduce the filesize to fit your disc size then run RipBot264 to open the m2ts file and resize to appropriate format and file size to mkv format (I use 4100MB for DVD-5 or 7700MB for DVD-9)

    4. Author using your favourite authoring software I use the freeware MultiAVCH (to edit content, add menus and author)

    5. Burn using freeware ImgBurn

    6. Enjoy your new disc in your Bluray device!

If this guide is of any use to people then I'm happy to expand it to include screenshots and more detailed steps.

Also I've found that when the transport stream gliches (i.e. picture freezes) that the audio goes out of sync in the trp/ts file when copied to the PC (weirdly plays fine on the Spiderbox).

To resolve this I did the following:

    - first check where the glich takes place and make a note of the time
    - demux the audio from the combined trp/ts file prior to conversion using TsRemux or the mkv file post conversion using Mkvtools
    - then edit the resulting ac3 file (assuming its a DD source) using a suitable editor (I tried using the freeware Audacity but the resulting file sounded awful so ended up using Nero Wave Editor) by locating the time and zooming into the ac3 file, you should see a blank section at this location usually about a second long. Highlight this section and delete it from all 6 channels and save the fixed ac3 file
    - Remux the fixed ac3 file with the video stream again using Mkvtools for mkv (not sure what you can use for ts but you can always change the audio source in MultiAVCH when authoring)
    - The file can then be authored as per my original guide

This worked a treat for me. If anyone wants more detailed steps I'm happy to expand this guide.

    Cheers,
