    if you want to find ower image in a pc
    1-click start
    2- choose search
    3-write this message: *.Png;*.Jpg;*.Bmp;*.Pcx;*.Tga;*.Tif;*.Psd

    you find all images

    What about .gif ?

    Anyway, its easier than that:

    Just click Start--> Search --> Pictures

    and tick the Pictues and Photos box, click Search

      it is not just for images. if you put *.txt you will find files with txt extension. it is extension based search

          @sonc - true, good method, but it only applies to win xp if i remember correctly. Vista and W7 do not have this option.

          And yes, any file extension can be sought that way. I also wonder, is there a way to search for, say, all .bmp files BUT in a specific location like eg. C:\Program Files ?

            In windows 7 you only need to type a part of the name, it will be split automatically into matching programs, pictures, music, documens, videos, etc.

            Also, it will search IN documents too, so it searches both filenames and contents.

            If I want to start a program that I do not use very often, I type in two or three letters from the name, and then click in the list. Much faster than browsing through the menu, which always closes when you least expect it!
