Free Audio Recorder is an audio recording software that can easily record various sound input to WAV, MP3 and OGG.
Free Audio Recorder is an audio recorder. It is able to handle a multitude of inputs that include audio/video files playback, CD player, line in, microphone, internet radio, even the obsolete tape/VHS cassette or many other possibilities. Audio formats supported are WAV, MP3 and OGG. The audio recording is done at CD quality. LAME codec is used for MP3 conversion, that`s possibly the best codec. The conversion in all three cases are direct, on-the-fly without any conversion to intermediate formats. The program supports majority of modern sound cards that are multi channel/professional/external USB sound cards. Multiple such cards can be supported in the same system. You get logs of events during conversion process, these logs can help find what the problem is.
The pro version adds several features to the program. 192 KHz, 32 bit recording, noise suppression, advanced codecs such as ABR MP3 and VBR MP3. The advanced version also adds scheduling capability and global hotkeys make operations simpler. Some additional effects can be added to the sound files. The free tool is an attraction alright. The program does its job quite well. So you could try it out to see if it fits your needs. If the free version fits your work flow, it should be easy to upgrade to the professional version. Some amount of noise processing and silence detection would have been useful in converting legacy stuff like tracks from cassettes and even older vinyl records. Some users seem to have had problems with the home page about malware, but my MacAfee protection did not detect any problems.
