aTube Catcher is a simple freeware that has two main features: download your favorite videos from social web sites as YouTube, MySpace, Google, Yahoo, etc. and convert them to most major video formats (with the quality that you choose).
By default, the installation is set to change your search engine to Ask.com and also install the aTube toolbar, plus a registry cleaner called 'Registry Reviver', which you might want to exclude from the installation - especially if you're not sure what are those for.
After installation, to get started, simply copy and paste the URL of a video from YouTube (or any other supported social media web site) into the program, select the location where you want it to be downloaded, set the output format and press Download. That's all, the program will start downloading and converting the video.
Recording your downloaded videos in DVD is as simple as that , without having to use any other program. There are just a few steps: select your DVD recorder, type a title for the disc, add the files (you can drag them to the box) and then just click 'Burn DVD' to start the burning process. As a plus, in case you don't want to record right away, you can create an ISO image and burn it later.
More to this, something which I didn't expect, but included in this application, that I like very much is a screen recorder and the audio recorder. This enables you to record all the things that happen in a specific section of your screen (you can select a custom area or a specific frame) using many customization options and to record audio (from your speakers, microphone or line in).
Pluses: It's freeware! It has an MP3 downloader; you can burn your downloaded videos on to DVDs; you can extract, if you want to, only audio tracks from your favorite videos to listen to them on your Mp3 player and so on; you can record the screen; YouTube HQ/HD support; stream catcher; audio recorder;
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: aTube Catcher is an excellent tool for downloading online movies, converting videos (to all the major formats or those supported by mobile devices), recording the screen, creating DVDs, downloading MP3's - all this flawlessly integrated in a simple application with an easy-to-use use interface and lots of features - I highly recommend this program.
