IP Watcher is a powerful application that monitors your public and local IP address. If your IP address changes it will send an email or SMS Text Message alert containing the new WAN IP address. This alert also includes the computer name, local ip address and time the change occurred. This is useful for computers that have dynamically assigned IP addresses, but need to be accessed remotely. Works great for Windows XP Remote Desktop, PC Anywhere, etc... IP Watcher also has an icon that sits in the windows system tray area that can be clicked to view the status or right clicked for a configuration menu. Notification of changed IP address
Not only can IP Watcher detect a change in an IP address, but it can also notify you via email or sms text message if this occurs. This is helpful if you are trying to access a remote computer whose IP address has changed. Configure IP Watcher to notify you and you will be able to continue to access the remote computer.
Email Alert Notifications
IP Watcher can send notification emails when it detects an IP address has changed. You may configure email settings to use a built-in emailer or configure for your SMTP mail server. IP Watcher provides background sending of these notification emails so you will know when an address changes and still be able to access a remote system.

A tool that tracks changes in the IP address of a host and automatically informs the user (either locally or remotely through the use of email).
Pros: IP Watcher is a tool that constantly monitors your computer’s IP address. This is useful in cases where the IP address is dynamically allocated through DHCP and changes occasionally. IP Watcher informs the user, when such a change is occurs, this is done either through a pop-up window (locally) and also by sending an email to any email address that the user specifies, the email contains information about what the change was and when the change occurred. Thus, if the user is away from his or her computer and needs to access it remotely they can do so by using the changed IP address (example using remote Desktop or PC anywhere). The current version of IP Watcher is a Windows Service thus it runs automatically when the computer is turned ON (irrespective of whether any user is logged on). The interface is bare bones and does only as much as it is required to do: it sits in the system tray and can be clicked to view status or to bring up a configurable menu.
Cons: Frankly, not many users need to have their IP address information at all time, so it may not be that useful. However, as the program description says that this is for users that want to access their computer remotely so this isn’t really a limitation. On certain kinds of connections such as a public wireless with frequent disconnections, and IP address reassignment, the program informing the user constantly can become irritating.
It is also not clear that it works very well behind a firewall or with NAT (network address translation). Remote users may still face problems under such circumstances and manual settings may be the way to go. There is a security concern in that if your email is compromised, a hacker can get your IP address and attack it.
Overall: At least 3 stars. 4 stars also possible. It works but there are a set of issues and unanswered questions
