Just look at Ubuntu forums for the supported Nvidia card to get good performance.

You do need a good card to use Unity 3D without glitches, some people don't like it but puts Win 7 to shame.

But I see you that you also have Centos so what purpose are you using it for?

If it just for office or web browsing then a cheaper graphic card will do and Ubuntu will happily run Unity 2D, KDE or Gnome classic.

i would choose a NVIDIA graphics card. Their proprietary linux drivers are really good and frequently updated. They even release driver versions for FreeBSD and Solaris. To my knowledge there's no match out there(neither proprietary nor free) and I didn't have any real issues with direct rendering and 3D pertaining to NVIDIA cards since GeForce series got out for more cards please see the link _

            Re: Ati - Nvidia

I have got an AMD ATI HD graphics cards and works fine. But in order to use the GPU to other purpoises, as wifi audit, NVIDIA have the CUDA option to use faster than the PC CPU and performance is really amazing and works fine on linux distros.
So if you can, buy a Nvidia graphics card.
            Best regards.

                Geforce GTX680!!!

A great example of this teamwork has been demonstrated by Valve as the firm continues to port its Steam platform and Left 4 Dead 2 game over to Ubuntu Linux. When the firm first began its port, armed with a GeForce GTX680, it was able to achieve a meager 6fps in Ubuntu, against the 270fps of Windows 7 in DirectX.
Since then, Valve has optimised the Steam engine for OpenGL and, in Windows, L4D2 is now running faster than its DirectX counter-part at 305fps, proving that OpenGL is no longer under-optimised in the drivers. OpenGL, however, has to jump through a few hoops in Windows, with these overheads affecting performance. Perhaps then, it's no surprise that Valve, working closely with NVIDIA, in the space of a few months has managed to achieve frame rates of 315fps, when running L4D2 on Ubuntu 32-bit.

Again, perhaps no surprise, however, certainly a revelation. A revelation that with enough effort when porting and, with backing from NVIDIA, AMD and co. Linux could become the gaming platform of the future as something free, open-source, highly-optimised and portable, it would be possible for hardware and console designers to take a distribution off-the-shelf or build-up from the kernel to a high-performance solution, for the lowest cost in the least time. Quite a thought.

                  Re: Ati - Nvidia

If you like to use it on XBMC or other Moviepayer under Linux there is only Nvidia with VDPAU full supported on Linux. VAPI for Intel or AMD is still not working very well.

If you like to watch FullHD-Movies or TV with good deinterlacing and scalling take a GT210 or better.
