    Re: Workgroup

As far as I'm aware, you need samba running on the Linux machine. Then in the configuration file for samba, you can specify a workgroup.

On ubuntu the default workgroup is "WORKGROUP"

Are you sure samba is installed on that server

Do you have a router to see the IP of that server ?

If you don't seeit on your group and you know the IP you could just type in Windows Explorer (not IE) \\192.168.1.1 (for example)

              Re: Workgroup

there is defenitively no "workgroup" under linux unless you install samba
use synaptic (or any othe package manager) and install
              samba-common
              samba
under ubuntu you can manage samba credentials / users and the workgroup in the settings menu

os2222, the man said that has no clue about Linux, let him just first try to find the ip and use \\xx.xx.xx.xx

You realy think that samba is not installed, maybe it is, but is not searchable or it has winbind disabled !

In samba is very simple to hide a host from an Windows Desktop
