    Frugalware Linux 1.3 / 1.4 RC1

    Frugalware Linux 1.3 / 1.4 RC1

    The Frugalware Developer Team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Frugalware 1.4rc1, the first candidate of the upcoming 1.4 stable release.

    Frugalware is a general purpose linux distribution, designed for intermediate users (who are not afraid of text mode).

    It is based on Slackware, but uses a different package management system, Pacman

    Frugalware's developers attempt to make Frugalware as simple as possible while establishing a priority based on comfortable use. Their goal is to ship consistently fresh and stable software, as close to the original source as possible.

    Here are some of the major improvements, fixes and updates since 1.4pre2:

    * Package updates:
    o Linux 2.6.36.2
    o Firefox 3.6.13, Chromium 10.0.616.0
    o Midnight Commander 4.7.5
    * New Features:
    o New LCD font rendering available in GNOME. If you use digital video output, this will improve font appearance.
    o OSSv4 has been added. Feel free to try it out if you have issues with ALSA.
    o systemd is now available as an alternative of sysvinit (see its wiki page for more info).
