Alien Arena 2011 for Linux Released for Holidays
Alien Arena 2011, one of the best freeware, open source first-person shooter games for Linux systems was released yesterday, December 16th, as announced by COR Entertainment, LLC. Just in time for the holidays, Alien Arena version 7.50 brings major improvements and new features that smooth up the gameplay.
"Alien Arena 2011 version 7.50 has been released today for windows and linux users! The latest version(7.50) of the open sourced, freeware deathmatch shooter features a host of updates and features. We have also implemented the use of AutoTools for easier and more consistent Linux/Unix/MacOS compilation." - was stated in the release announcement.
Highlights of Alien Arena 2011 version 7.50:
· Implemented Ragdoll physics by using the Open Dynamics physics engine;
· The in-game IRC client was revamped;
· Implemented GNU AutoTools, for Linux/Unix and Mac OS X installations;
· Support for True Type Font (TTF) in game messages and console;
· Updated player skins and models;
· ppl lit BSP surfaces received alphamasking;
· The dodge-chaining exploit was fixed;
· Particle rendering is now faster;
· Exiting vehicles bugs were fixed;
· Kick/ban routines issues were fixed;
· Colored names issues were fixed;
· auto team balancing and auto-bot kick were reworked;
· Various rscript issues were fixed;
· Vehicle consoles can now be replaced with 2D HUDS;
· The listen servers were automatically passworded;
· OpenAL segfaults were fixed if no devices were defined;
· Precaching of weapon and player models is now fixed and gives a smoother gameplay;
· dm-babel was revamped;
· Various shaders were updated or improved;
· Fixed player names and intermissions issues;
· Added two brand new maps, and one map was revamped;
· Added new music created by Paul Joyce, a renowned musician;
· Lots of other small bugfixes, improvements, tweaks, and code cleanup!
To start playing Alien Arena 2011, you will have to extract the archive, enter the directory and compile the sources!
Alien Arena 2011 is a standalone 3D FPS with online multiplayer features, built from the source code of Quake II and III, games produced by id Software under the GPL license. It features 32-bit graphics, new particle engine and effects, light blooms, reflective water, high resolution textures and skins, improved models and much more.
