    Openbox as server?

    Hi,

I've just ordered an Openbox V8S, can it be used as a server or do I need something better?

    For info:-

Currently have 2 Sky+ HD boxes on multiroom with full Movies, Sport, etc.

I've got CFS/ME so not currently working, so I'm spending a lot of time away from home at a friends farm, helping out where I can, hence the idea of sharing a card.

SkyGo is a bit of a no go due to slow internet speed at the farm (about 2Mbit/s but shared for other stuff, so poor quality, frequent buffering, etc.).

I can setup a VPN between home (Currently about 19Mbit/s Down / 1Mbit/s Up) and the farm.

VMware ESXi servers at both home and farm if any linux boxes needed, etc.

I'm pretty familiar with networking, etc. but very new to Card sharing & Satellite TV, apart from just paying to have Sky for 20 odd years, etc.

Help much appreciated. Links are appreciated, I'm more than happy to learn for myself but the ME limits my concentration so I get tired easily these days and have to try to pace myself :-( .

    Cheers,

    Neil

That box cannot be used as a server i'm afraid , you need something like a genuine Vu+ or a Dreambox . Even a second hand one would do the job if funds are a problem .

      Hi,

Can a PC/Server be used with a DVB-S card and some form of card reader?

*** Sorry, think I've found the anwer myself, should have looked at all the forum sections, Thanks. ***

      Cheers,

      Neil
