What does it mean by Hops?

Friends what does it mean by hops when we use c line.? And also there are hops 1 and hops2 what are these?

let's assume a cccam server s1, and a clients: c1,c2, c3, ...

when the client c1 is directly connected to the server s1,
he is 1 hop away from the server s1

when the client c2 is directly connected the client c1 (acting also as server)
himself (c1) directly connected to the server s1,
c2 is 1 hop away from the client (but also server) c1
c2 is 2 hops away from the server s1

s1 - c1

s1 - c1 - c2

...
