    Two diffrent lines & differnet boxes will not work at the same time...

    Hi everyone a bit of advice please, I have two completely different clines and two skybox f5's one plugged straight into router (main box) and the other via a homplug.
    My problem is a soon as you turn on the main skybox the second box freezes up and as soon as you turn it off again it comes back on. anyone know what could be causing this ? I have FTTC so i dont think it could be bandwidth issues

    Thanks

    Have you checked that they have different I.P. adresses?

      100% you have a duplicated ip address.

        ok, try this:

        open a telnet session onto the router
        ping a broadcast
        print arp table
        submit it to us for diagnostic

        ie

        $ telnet iprouter

        user
        passwd

        $ ping -b the_lan_ip_address_of_your_lan

        $ arp -n
        Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask Iface
        192.168.0.1 ether 00:11:22:33:44:55 C eth0
        192.168.0.2 ether 00:11:22:33:44:66 C eth0

        with the the_lan_ip_address_of_your_lan as the very first ip available in your lan, it is called the network address:

        192.168.0.000/24 -> 192.168.0.0
        192.168.0.000/25 -> 192.168.0.0
        192.168.0.130/25 -> 192.168.0.128

          I think that the problem is the homeplug you are using.

          Somehow, there is a conflict and when the homeplug is working the network collapses.

          Try to connect directly your second box with the router as you already done with your main receiver and test them.

            use different servers or different ip address
            Please push thanks.

              Ok lots of useful advice here thanks, So i have now both boxes plugged straight into the router (no more homeplug) I have triple checked the IP address they not the same I also changed the IP on one to be sure. Both boxes ******* works and both boxes have online next to the cline in cams setup, so i assume they must have internet but still when you turn the main box on the other one freezes up ! aplok Im not really familiar with what your suggesting but thanks anyway

                ... just another idea to dig in:

                does your router portforwards until your 2 satboxes ? (as 12000, for example)
                is this forwarded port the same on both 2 satboxes ?

                this may insert a conflict in the router arp list

                  I still believe you have a duplicate ip address (maybe the card has a secondary ip and you don't know ...)
                  Anyway, if you have a third pc you can make this test:
                  - power on your (third) pc
                  - power on the first box
                  - make an ip scan of you network from the pc and write down your ip addresses that are "alive"
                  - power off the first box
                  - power on the second box
                  - make a second ip scan of you network from the pc and write down your ip addresses that are "alive"
                  - check if you have duplicates (ip addresses that overlaps in the two scans)

                    My first question to you would be how are you connecting your boxes to the
                    LNB and dish? If it is not separate cable for each box going to a different output
                    of the LNB you are asking for trouble, I know someone who had a problem that
                    was similar to yours who used a coax signal splitter to try run 2 boxes you can't
                    do this with sat signal. There is also a known problem with running 2 boxes on sky
                    installed LNB and dish but in that one of the boxes would lose either the verticle
                    channels or horizontal ones I can't remember which at this exact moment but
                    because you are running 2 F5's that might cause a big problem because they run
                    at a higher voltage the solution to this was the no signal diode fix which is still
                    available on ebay.

                      .... good diversion !

                      test #1: test the lan: router, homeplug, satbox1, satbox2, pc, tablet, ...

                      test #2: test the concomitant reception of satbox1 and satbox2,
                      under this strong constraint, that is:

                      one given lnb can only provide compatible signal (with respect of some snr loss) to multiple satbox only if every the satboxes are tuned onto the same sat and the same polarization,

                      the lnb fails otherwise

                      ( they mail be tuned on different channels, but on the same sat, with the same polarization h/v )

                        adcad, is it scrambled channel that is not working or is it FTA channel salso that freez?

                          I think you could be right, I set up a 3G modem on one box so both boxes were running on separate internet connection and the same thing happened so that completely rules out IP address issues ect. (I have a quad LNB no splitters) It must be the LNB like you said so ill have to keep an eye out on ebay do i need to fit them to both boxes ?

                          I have since decided to buy a Technomate TM-2T OE will it need one too?

                          Cheers for everyone's help

                          FTA channels work fine (even with both boxes on)

                            Technomate make good reliable boxes it shouldn't cause you the problems that
                            the F5 causes, but because you said the problem only happens with scrambled
                            channels then the suspect must be the internet if you rule out the servers and
                            ip conflict then it might be the case that one F5 causes interference with the
                            other F5 like a DECT cordless phone sometimes does with wifi.
