    traffic shaping / throttling

I am about to change ISP and although I should be getting an unlimited connection you cannot always trust ISPs

Has anyone had trouble with their connection to Satlover cccam servers setting off any traffic shaping / throttling like bit torrent and other p2p connections can and if so would it affect the decryption speed

I use a PC with Hadu installed to connect

    Re: traffic shaping / throttling

Traffic shaping/Throttling would all depend on who you are going with in the first place and also consider its not just that its the reliability of the connection as well, if your Ping is Sky high then you will have nothing but trouble

      Re: traffic shaping / throttling

      I understand that,

I am going over to a fttc (fibre from cabinet) connection with BT so I am hoping for a better ping but if hadu sets off the throttling it will take the speed down to about 30kps which I think could cause problems

I am going for the unlimited package which should not have any throttling but I don't really trust them so was just checking if anyone has any experience or problems with this

        Re: traffic shaping / throttling

Of course you can or wil have trouble if you use P2P or emule etc... programs!
You muss have a super connection at your ISP to have good results if you like to use such programs together with CS.

Do you gonna get a real fibre or fibre speed over cable?

Also if you use you own router use one with a CPU speed of minimal 400MHz I prefer 600+ MHz and running Linux OS.
I recommend a router that wil support DD-WRT firmware.

There is no traffic shaping on BT fibreoptic.

Yes there is especially on P2P software, i have been with them for over 2 years and am currently on the Infinity2 package i have never had any problems probably due to the fact that i do not use crappy P2P programs and instead use an SSL connection to newsgroups for what i want and can download at full speed 24/7

I'm on fibre PlusNet which is essentially BT, and can confirm there is no p2p shaping. The only thing they do is they will proritise traffic, meaning they will give higher priority to web,*******, video calling etc than p2p, in practise what it mean is if you have a slow skype connection they will limit all other connections to match the speed of skype, protecting it from slowing down even further. But if there is nothing else running you will have full speed.

Another option is localy limiting your P2P software with such as NetLimiter

@SatWaveDude: official speed 80Mbs download, 20 upload. Last time when checked from laptop I had 74Mbs download and 18 upload. Downloading speed will wary depending of the time of day, at busiest times when all people are online it will get down to 40Mbs

Plusnet is belonging to BT, hence they sell the same product under different name.

Better get this straight now before people get confused :

Plusnet are part of BT but still operate under Metronet

BT own the Lines going into your home and the Mini exchanges that are at the end of most peoples streets etc...

Plusnet the same as Talk talk and Sky all who have a fibre product lease the lines from BT but they all have there own main servers which have nothing to do with BT and that is why you get limited.

I have BT Infintiy direct i dont have any slowdown at all 24 hours a day 7 days a week, i cant say anything about the other providers as they have there own policy's.

BT do traffic shape P2P Fact it is in there terms and conditions and as i stated i dont use P2P i use newsgroups which are not Traffic shaped in any form so i can download 24/7 at full speed without any slowdown currently at 78mb down and 19mb up.

                      Hope that clears things up

78 down 19 up also depends on where your mini exchange is located mine is at the end of the street.

                        Re: traffic shaping / throttling

while running cccam I would not run any p2p but my concern is that would the cccam look like p2p and set off the throttling, I assume no one has had any problems with this.

so far everything I have read says that the BT unlimited has no throttling/shaping, it is in there normal packages, I believe plusnet have shaping unless you pay extra to have it removed

                          Digicon nicely summarised.

Plusnet has so called Traffic management, that assigns different web activities different priorities. This actually works quite well I never could omplain on that and my p2p speeds were always top notch. More info can be found on their website:

Just to add to the correct information that Digicon has given... Throttling does exist as no matter what product is advertised as truly unlimited, if you are using torrents and p2p software, you will attract attention to yourself as you are abusing their bandwidth (The upload one is the key here) as you are re sharing what you are downloading. This will flag on their systems if you are excessively and constantly doing it, and the fact that you are re sharing a particular file puts you at risk of piracy if you do not have the authority to share it as you as seen as a distributor.
