Sky Open Box X3 HD PVR Subtitles issues?

I have a sky open box x3 hd pvr and i am experiencing issues with the subtitles...I am unable to turn the subtitles off on many of the channels. Its so annoying and I have spent many hours trying to fix it. There is no option in the language or subtitles menu to turn them off. Did anyone else have the same problem? If so, how did you manage to resolve it? I am new to this and therefore a bit inexperienced on how it all works...would appreciate any help and advice.
