would sky freeview card show as local

hi can anybody help me i am sharing and one of my peers says he has sky uk local in dreambox what i would like to know even if it was a free view sky card whiconly gives you fta channels would it show as local even if its not sharing for any none fta channels

I was also interested in knowing the answer to this. But the only card I could get hold of was a 'Blue sly' one - which turned out to be deactivated - so useless.

Then I thought.. Oh, I might be able to get from from fleabay.. But then realised I would have to purchase one from fleabay that came with the paired box key (or the paired box itself). I dont imagine many people of fleabay willing to email back the box serial number with a white card their selling either.
I also dont want to pay for a box, (admit 2nd hand) that i wont use and will only go in the bin once ive took the serial number / box key from it.

another thing can do is bid on old sky boxes on ebay for a few quid and then only ask for the serial number only, pay for the box and not the postage.

Remember that a freeview card from $ly opens FTV channels that FTA receivers cannot open like Channel5 HD, 5 USA, 5 Star, Liverpool TV, Sony Entertaintment, Viva, Pick TV and all the ITV local versions so these would still be shared.

Oh right. I was worried that id spend the money on fleabay for a white card and be unable to use it with the boxkey. Thats what put me off. But if you dont need the boxkey, ill get back on fleabay and get me a white card. Thank you.

ok i understand that but what i would like to know would it say show up on a dreambox to other peers as a local as i think i have some one who is sharing sky uk but freeview card so only recieving from him free view channels or with a fta sky card would it not show as local at all

you need box key for pick tv and pick tv +1, those are the 2 free to view channels that need boxkey as far as I know.

Or better still do what I did and just put a wanted ad in at freecycle, I had 3 offers for a box, just had to pick them up locally. With people upgrading to $ly HD and $ly plus there are plenty of old boxes knocking around!

you need a box key to open the free to view channels such as pick tv and 5usa but thats easy to get using this site http://boxkey.exyucs.com/generator.php?lan=en

Yes it would still show as local as it is sharing the card, but it would only activate the FTV channels I listed earlier.
