      Pin 1 is Data Carrier Detect.
      If connected at all, it should be connected to pins 6 an 7 (Request to Send and Clear to Send) on the other end.
      In general, however, pin 1 is left open.

      For full harware handshaking use:
      2 <-> 3
      3 <-> 2
      4 <-> 6
      5 <-> 5
      6 <-> 4
      7 <-> 8
      8 <-> 7

      Pins 1 and 9 are not connected

        It won't matter if is connected or not because as far as i know in establishment of handshaking dreambox won't use DTR

                RS232 is generic, function of software and hardware you will need diffrent types of connections, handshackings and so on, that's why you must have the right rs232 cable

                          I just cut a standard cable in two and rewired it. Been using it now for years on my Dreamboxes.
