I own a THL W8S Smartphone and the GPS is really a crap, I have tried all the solutions found on the Internet but I have not solved the problem.

The GPS does not lock the Satellites unless I use an internet connection, but when I have a SIM with no data traffic, the GPS does not work.
I would like to test it with the GPS.conf file used in a Samsung device, is there anybody who can post the file here?

3. Modify the gps.conf file (Most Crucial Stage)
Copy the codes in grey box (in first post) to a notepad, then change the extension name from .txt to .conf then copy to your phone
Use file manager to copy to this location: /etc/gps.conf and replace the original gps.conf
Open and Edit the gps.conf using rootexplorer or others file managers
Change the COUNTRY and REGION in following lines with the info you got from the website just now. Keep other values unchange unless you know what it is. Example of REGION such as NorthAmerica, Asia, Africa, Europe.
Your new gps.conf should look as below:

This version is slightly different from my GPS.conf file and it works perfect when I have the connection to the Internet but, once again if I am disconnected from it, I cannot loch any satellite.

You can fix satellites when connected because your position is derived by the network itself, not by gps.
I think there's no solution to your problem or, at least, it's not a software solution because the problem is a hardware issue ... most of times it's related to a poor antenna design.

I'm sorry gianni 253 but I don't agree with you in reference to your statement that the position is derived by the network, due to the same SIM inserted in a Samsung phone works perfectly and so does when using different GPS.Conf file. I do agree instead when you say that most of time is related to an hardware issue i.e. poor antenna design.
Additionally, a "well configured" GPS.conf file makes the difference!

I found the solution and I post it here due to it is applicable to all the smartphones with a gps antenna. Keep in mind that the phone must be rooted in order to allow the program to write the gps.conf file into the system.

1. Download from the market FasterFix (it is free of charge) and install it; launch the program and choose from the menu your Country then push "Go" you get a pop up saying that the new gps.conf file has been written into the system.

2. Turn on the gps, use GPS Test tomonitor the status of the satellites in view and after a while you'll see those in use and the level of the signal.

Amazing!!!!! I was going crazy :-)

try this link below, also have you downloaded the ****** maps, your phone needs these, gps on aphone is assisted hence the agps settings in your phone and ****** maps will help you to lock on the sats.

I had already downloaded ****** maps and used all the suggested settings for Agps and so on but it didn't work for me, using the procedure described in my previous post, did help me.
