The filesharing is a little different than then cs. Sometime the antipiracy companies make a torrent file of some copyrighted material and upload it on the internet for sharing. Then they trace all the IP address the ones are downloading the file. They contact the ISP of those ip and get the contact information for the IPs. Then they send a legal notice to the people who were downloading the file. The notice tells them to get ready for a court appearance or pay the costs of the file which would be 100's or sometime 1000's of £££. The Watch Dog on BBC1 covered the whole story last year.

I don't think they're making log files of our ip's. But like juekra said a russian/eastern bloc server is safest. No laws laws against cs there.

        hi

Basically agree, of course there's a risk - but think the risk is higher by the owners of the servers than the users of them ; therefore owners are advised to place it in a 'safe' location.
@moFu: I don't know if there's a link between FS and CS (with link I mean some kind overlapping database and exchange info), but I have the feeling that once you've received a bill or warning, the risk to be 'caught' again is a bit higher - hope for you it's not.

Think its the same with onlinestreaming. Its against the law (here in Germany), but only the owner of the server becomes a problem and not the users (for now).....

Here in norway the law is very brutaly several times they have caughet cs community like latest in march where 100 people(users) had to pay 2000 dollar each becouse of cs. So the risk is there but i dont think it will be easy for any gov, to get all the users who use satlover cs community example.

Sounds like they are clamping down.
Like pan1100 said, best thing is for the servers to be located in "safe" countries like russia and china.
Without access to the servers we, the users, can't be traced.
I think we should also help eachother to stay as safe and anonymous as possible.

Here in Germany the law have changed 1 month ago or so....but at the moment no one sends a cease-and-desist order (dont know the translation of Abmahnung (german)) to the users.
Look at the theme with Kino.to

                  hi

Here in Belgium, I don't know people who have been caught (and hope it stays like this ).
Must honoustly say that I still have the impression that the whole sat-industry here isn't very big (growing ok, but slow)
About the server: don't know how it is here and what are the possibilities, but heard (and seems logical) that a 'moving' server is the safest ; so periodically moving it from place and/or country.

I have heard of a few busts in the u.k. but only the server.
As far as i'm aware no clients have had any action take against them. Let's hope it stays that way

Re: server located in germany -> secure??

Any server located in Germany or anywhere in Europe, UK, America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Africa are not safe and they can be easily traced because of these countries co-operate with each other in clamping down the hackers and pirates. The rest of the world should be alright cos CS is not so popular.

so -as I said before - China is still an option?

In fact, I don't really care, don't want to know and have full confidence that mr. serverman exactly knows what he's doing! Again: no risk, no fun.
Anyway, we can't do anything about this at all ...

Its true that cs is not popular for the peopel but for the police and the tv provider companys this is a big problem. Here in norway some month ago and nordic anti cs organization caught a cs "store" middel of norway capital city where they found out they had thousands of subscribers who got full package from the two biggest tv providers canal digital nordicand and viasat with cs thecnology. For the provider it means they los thousands of legal subscriper and all this is $$$money$$$. Offcource this is worse for the international provider like sky, but as you say microchick it is yet not so popular that the counteries want to have an anti cs hunt organisation etc.... Maybe in the future it will more and more popular or maybe the cs as we know it today will change? who knows, lets just enjoy every seconds of it for now...

                            hi

                            Hope you weren't involved

Do you perhaps know what happened to the store and the subscribers (sanctioning / fines / convictions?)?

                              hey guys,

I am glad to see that now but few are interested in this topic ...

It is certainly is a question of popularity and the extent to which operated cardsharing.
is probably mainly drum if the pay TV providers are interested at some point it got rid of the black sheep or a to make an example.
If this is to take legal steps to it all falls and medium routes to the server data and user data are possibly also (only the admin knows what will gelogged or not).

Of course it would be safer somewhere on the server running ass to the world but is then no longer enjoy the pings too high, and above all the expenses for the admin.

or who uses proxys vpn to connect to?
