A suggestion would be to have a small paragraph at the top of the server list page giving periodic updates to servers whenever they are having problems or down. That way it will reduce the number of people stating whether they are down or not while being informative etc

E.g

Server 1: Online
Server 2: Offline
Server 3: Online but unstable
Server 4: Online

etc etc

Its a good idea, but would need up to be up-to-date at all times, otherwise people will still post querying the status.

Maybe, a last updated field would help?

Server 1: Online (last updated dd-mm-yy hh:mm)
Server 2: Offline (last updated dd-mm-yy hh:mm)
etc.


All means more work for someone though

Exactly, thats a good point... Surely there is at least 1 or 2 people that run this whole website including the administrator who log in once a day or become aware first to the fact that a specific server is down. But yes, I agree with your point about the time and date stamp. Maybe a 6-8 set period to constantly update.

I think it would be something so simple to add that it could be done this minute if the people in charge wanted and it will remove alot of uncertainty over whether a server is down or the c line is full.

I think it would be very helpful for all forum members. The best thing would be for the status of servers was controlled automatically (using a script).

Your right to a certain extent peremacedonia, however having a server status live feed is more useful as you will now if you cant connect wether its an error on your end. For example, sometimes it connects to the C line in 2 seconds sometimes 1 minute...Is this my fault or the server? Once it was my fault because some was using the internet and reducing bandwidth heavily, whereas another time the server was genuinely down at I wasted a lot of time trying different C lines for know reason.

Yes if u use server 2 u need only server 2 updates not for 1.2.3.Why
Thread is very full but u must list 2 pages to find updates.

I`m new to sharing so maybe there is an easy way to check server status,if so can you direct me to the info? I find trying lines and waiting to see if they work or not to be a very slow process.

As far as i know the only way to check the server is by trying C lines until you are able to connect

odysseas1991 explains the problem very well.I don`t have a solution ,but if we could know when a server is working it would be a big help.

Conax, what we are suggesting is that there is a script which is live, that runs and says offline or online, it would update by itself.

that shouldnt be a big problem
php can run sys commands and with a netchecker you could run a port check against the servers, e.g. port 15000. if it fails php should display a red dot, if its successfull a green one would appear.
it only has to be implemented in a box on the right/left of the forum. thats easy going

os2222, very good, what you are suggesting is very similiar visually to the way the offline and online status of each member is here. The green dot is on when someone is online. Something like that would be nice. And maybe and amber for connectivity problems etc.
