    HDTV Satellite Cable Requirements

An HDTV is only as good as the signal that it outputs. Many satellite and cable services offer HD programming, but you must have the right equipment in order to get the highest quality signal. Most of this equipment is provided to you by your satellite service provider, but there may be an extra upfront or monthly fee for HD service or equipment.

    Satellite HD Service
The first thing that you will need is HD service. While all satellite providers offer HD service, you have to specify in your account that you wish to receive it. There may be an extra monthly fee to upgrade to HD service. Call your satellite service provider for more information.

    Antenna Dish
If you already subscribe to a satellite service, then you should already have an antenna dish. If you are a new subscriber, then you will need to install a dish at your home in order to receive any satellite service. Most satellite service providers offer free installation or do-it-yourself manuals.

    HD Receiver
You may already have a satellite receiver box, but in order to receive HD programming you will need an HD receiver. You can choose between a standard HD receiver or a DVR HD receiver that will allow you to record shows.

    HD Cables
In order to get an HD signal, you need to have your HD receiver connected to your TV with the proper cables. If your TV supports HDMI inputs, then you will want to connect your HD receiver to your TV with an HDMI cable. If no HDMI ports are available, you can connect your HD receiver via component cables, but your maximum resolution will be 1080i and you will not be able to get Full HD 1080p signals.
