Sky Store makes film content available to non-subscribers

    Editor | 04-12-2013

Just as its sister pay-TV service launched an over the top channel for those not wanting to subscribe to Sky TV, Sky Store has opened its film rental service to everyone in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Sky Store’s library of 1,200 titles will now available via launched a new website SkyStore.com and through the aforementioned NOW TV OTT service as well as through Roku and YouView boxes or through a specially designed connected TV app.

All film content on the online video channel and Sky Store app will offer high-definition quality and can be watched for 48 hours after initial play. Sky TV customers can continue to access Sky Store via their Sky+HD box where movies are stored for 48 hours once viewing starts.

The company says that it is making the move on the back of growing demand for the rental service amongst Sky TV’s own customers. Film rentals through Sky Store on Sky’s set-top box Sky+ have more than doubled year on year, with 2.1 million rentals in the 3 months ending 30 September.

“Millions of Sky TV customers already enjoy the choice and value of Sky Store,” said Nicola Bamford, Director of Sky Store. “Now we’re delighted that millions more homes can access hundreds of box office smashes alongside best-loved movie classics. All you need is an internet connection and away you go.”
