Telus to invest CA$ 650mn in BC network
Canadian telco Telus has revealed plans to invest CA$ 650mn (US$ 644mn) in British Columbia this year in order to extend the reach and speed of its wireline and wireless services in the province, including its IPTV service 'Telus TV'.
“Since 2000, Telus has invested more than CA$ 22bn in technology and operations in British Columbia," said Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of Telus. "This significant commitment is bringing the benefits of one of the world's most advanced wireless networks, high-speed Internet and high-definition Telus TV to more people in our home province."
The telco has also confirmed plans to invest over CA$ 70mn in the city of Victoria (British Columbia) this year, again with the aim of expanding the reach and speed of its wireline and wireless services - including Telus TV, which it hopes to launch in Victoria later this year.
Telus launched an updated version of its IPTV service in Western Canada last February, powered by Microsoft Mediaroom and offering a number of new features. The telco is currently thought to have over 100,000 IPTV subscribers.
