NBC Universal Global Networks Deutschland has said it will launch an HD version of its SyFy channel in cooperation with Kabel Deutschland KDG on September 20. The cabler will also launch TNT Serie HD and TNT Film HD on October 11.
The HD channel SyFy follows in the footsteps of a re-branding of the channel. “I am very happy that together with our distribution partners Kabel Deutschland we are able to offer high definition television. This is significant added value for our viewers,” said Katharina Behrends, executive director of NBC Universal Global Networks, in a statement.
NBC Universal is active in the German speaking market with 13th Street and, in a joint venture with AETN, with German versions of History and The Biography Channel.
The move is part of push for HD television on behalf of Germany’s largest cable operator KDG, which also announced the impending launch of TNT Serie HD and TNT Film HD on the network from Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) from October 11. Both the two Turner channels, as well as SyFy, will be HD simulcasts of the SD versions.
