Fears over Latvian market ‘distortion’
The leading Latvian cable operators Baltkom and Izzi have criticised proposed amendments to the country’s Electronic Media Act.
According to DB, they would give the incumbent telco Lattelecom the right to operate the Latvian DTT network for a further five years. In their view, such a move would further distort the market in favour of Lattelecom, which is backed by TeliaSonera but still partly state owned.
At present Lattelecom has a licence to operate the country’s DTT network until December 31, 2013.
