Antena 3 TV launching men's channel
antena3Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 TV will launch a men's channel by the end of September, likely to be named Nitro. Antena 3 TV plans to form a group of thematic channels different from the traditional TV general content.
According to Silvio González, the company's CEO, the initial goal of the new channel is to reach a share of 1% at the end of this year.
As for the new channel's content, the CEO betted on making a programmimg schedule with "more reasonable prices" given the high number of existing channels in Spain but at the same time he has not ruled out including some sporting events in its contents.
Regarding the possible merger with another broadcaster, Silvio González said: "The entrepreneurial logic says the merger is necessary because the future of Spain's audiovisual should be similar to that of other markets'" such as the UK's or France's where the private broadcasters lead the TV sector. But although the CEO recognized holding conversations with Mediapro's la***ta for a possible merger he also indicated "for the moment" there is no agreement either on the economic level or on what executives’ positions could be after this merger.
With regard to the possibility of Antena 3 TV launching an HDTV channel Silvio González declared "this technology has a long way ahead and not all of the broadcasters are prepared for it".
