German car channel changes owner

German media entrepreneur Jörg Schütte has acquired the majority stake in Motor Presse TV, the company operating digital pay-TV service auto motor und sport channel.
“Motor Presse Stuttgart has decided to concentrate its internal management capacities on the areas of print and online for the time being and has therefore taken Jörg Schütte as the majority shareholder onboard,” a spokesman told German industry newsletter new business. He added that the Stuttgart-based publishing house would “keep full control over the brand auto motor und sport channel.” Motor Presse Stuttgart publishes a popular print magazine called auto motor und sport after which the TV channel was named.
Jörg Plathner will remain managing director in addition to Schütte. The transaction still has to be approved by the Federal Cartel Office. Schütte was formerly programme director of commercial TV channel VOX. In 2004 he founded tv.gusto, a thematic TV channel for hobby chefs.
