Rahul Chakkara, the BBC’s controller of TV platforms, is moving to one of the partners in Project Canvas. Chakkara, who was involved in both the development of Canvas and the iPlayer becomes director of online for Talk Talk where he will take responsibility for talktalk.co.uk, the members forum and sales sites.
Chakkara joined the BBC in 2004, when he was appointed as controller of the then BBCi’s 24/7 interactive services. He had previously worked as director of marketing & interactive television at *** where he was responsible for global marketing of digital television and future technologies, as well as developing the ITV business.
Beginning his career in software engineering with ICL-Fujitsu in 1987, Chakkara joined P&G Europe as a brand manager in 1992, rising to associate director of global interactive marketing having developed P&G’s interactive TV strategy.
It was widely expected that Chakkara would leave the BBC ahead of his department’s planned move to the new Salford facility.
