    Israel considers new basic package

    Israel considers new basic package

Calls are growing in Israel for cable and satellite providers to offer a small package of basic TV channels.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the country’s Consumer Council has delivered hundreds of letters from consumers to the PM, finance and communication ministers asking them to support a proposed new bill that will require the creation of such a package.

The Israeli Consumer Council (ICC) has conducted a survey in which it found that of the 49 channels offered in the basic YES (satellite) and 62 in HOT (cable) packages, viewers on average watch only 9.5.

In its opinion, viewers should only be required to pay for the channels they watch.

Some 65% of Israeli households currently receive cable or DTH services.
