New Thai movie channel launches

Thai movie exhibitor Major Cineplex Group has launched a new movie channel for the country in a joint venture with the Kantana Group, aimed at publicising the Thai film sector.
Major Kantana Broadcasting’s M Channel has been set up with Baht20 million (US$617,000) in capital. The free-to-air, 24-hour channel will air both Thai and Hollywood fare, including movie previews and behind-the-scenes programming as well as movies. Movies will account for about 70% of the schedule.
Automotive firm Toyota is one of two companies which have promised Baht15 million a year for the channel as part of a sponsorship deal. Major Kantana Broadcasting hopes to sign up more sponsors.
Kantana Group already operates the Miracle Channel and Farm Channel.
