Boosts Speeds of Express, Plus and Max Tiers
    Mike Farrell -- 3/1/2010 6:03:18 PM

Charter Communications has increased the speeds of three tiers of its high-speed Internet service -- Charter Internet Express, Charter Internet Plus and Charter Internet Max -- to customers free of charge.

The cable company also took a novel approach to getting the word out - it let customers make the pitch in a trio of commercial spots.
In what it calls an industry first, the commercials were cast, created and directed entirely on the Web. Charter utilized Web cams and filmed customers in their own homes to share their feelings on the faster Internet speeds. The results were three spots, entitled "Thank You," "Roller Coaster" and "Beat Box," which can be seen here. h**p://connect.charter.com/freefast/
According to Charter, it increased the download speeds of its Express service from 5 megabits per second to 8 Mbps; boosted the download speeds of the Plus tier from 10 Mbps to 16 Mbps; and raised the download speed of its Max service from 20 Mbps to 25 Mbps.
"We believe we provided a personal punctuation on what faster Internet means to our customers," said Charter senior director of customer marketing Judy Wu, in a statement.

Charter customers who appeared in the spots also chimed in.
"Having a chance to participate in the Charter commercial was a terrific experience," said Charter customer Debra Leigh Robitaille in a statement. "Our family members live all over the country and travel a lot. Now, no matter where in the world they are, if they have Internet access we can have a real-time video chat, just like they're here in the room with us."
