A bouquet of eight free-to-air channels on the Astra position at 19.2 degrees East is set to cease transmissions by the end of June 2010, according to a scroll bar currently showing on these channels.
The multiplex consists of TVE International, RAI Uno, M2 Monde, TRT International, TV 7 Tunis, RTP International, Canal Algerie and Al Masriya and is part of the CanalSat offer. No official reason is given for the end of the service, but insiders believe the Canal group needs the capacity to expand its HD offer for French viewers.
Most of these channels are also available free-to-air on other satellite positions, notably the Eutelsat Hot Bird position at 13 degrees East.
