Re: Risks of cardsharing
Everyone that you connect to if it is a web site gets your ip address.
that is how they know it is you when you reconnect with that site, besides the cookies that they leave on your comp,That is why you have a firewall to try and stop them sending any malicious files, but firewalls can be overcome.you can stop your comp from accepting cookies but the compramise is that if they want to, is stop you from connecting to thier site.your ip address tells them what part of the country you live in and if you are clever enough you can go even further than that.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
M7 Groupe SA has established more than 100 servers. Their cards were blocked.

Re: Risks of cardsharing
yes. there is no secure system. one can only make a system more difficult to crack.
in my case, my spiderbox is connecting to the net via 1 internet provider and my computers are connecting via another isp so the servers know my ip address but can't access to my files because the computers are on a different isp. Then you have a good solution.
But remember that anyone with right "know how" (as sucan said) can (if he wants to) crack a system.
Remember that locks are made for honest people.
A Thief cannot be stopped, but we can make it hard for him to cause damage.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
In short:
If he wants to, Yes (provided that you have not protected your system)
But most pay server providers are after the money and have little computer knowledge.
I keep thinking, why would some people (other than forums like this) give out free servers?
They must be getting something in return.

Connection to internet always means "open door". So everyone with good "know how" ( like you
) can enters through this door. İsn't it BM300

Re: Risks of cardsharing
My point of view is like this : Does your spiderbox have internet connection ? If yes - it takes IP - from where - from your modem . Does your computer have internet connection ? If yes - it takes IP - from where - form your modem
So access to your modem via your box means access to all your home network. If my logic is wrong everyone can correct me.You have a point sucan.
Since IPs/MAC addresses are the addresses of our locations and whatever instruments we use including computers, all safeguards must be in place to stop any intruders.
During my last visit to London, I played around with an IP scanner program to see if anyone in the building where I was staying had a Dreambox.
Guess what I found 2 and could go into the files of one of them.
It had password = dreambox.

Re: Risks of cardsharing
That is correct.
To avoid this,
Enable fire wall on your router.
Change Dreambox password so that no one can tamper with your files or download your movies while you are asleep.
Disable FTP or Samba in your box (enable only when you want to edit anything).
Make sure that your PC has no shared files.
Enable Any security alert that you have on your PC so that it will warn you.
